The Importance of Connecting Black History to My Ministry

In my ministry, I have seen firsthand the life-changing power of understanding where we come from and how God has been at work throughout our history. As a preacher, my mission is to bring together faith, history, and truth to inspire my congregation. By weaving African American history into the fabric of my sermons, I help people see themselves in God’s greater story and purpose.

Why Black History Belongs in Ministries

Too often, the history of African Americans is presented as a separate subject from the Gospel. However, when you study closely, you see the two are deeply intertwined. The Bible is full of stories about perseverance, deliverance, and God’s faithfulness in the face of oppression. These are themes that echo the African American experience. By highlighting this connection, we not only honor our past but also gain renewed strength for the present.

When I stand before a congregation, whether it’s in a church, a community center, a school, or another venue, I bring both the Word of God and the lessons of history. This approach allows people to see that faith is not just about spiritual truths in isolation, but about how those truths speak directly to the struggles and triumphs of our people.

A Legacy of Faith and Truth

I was blessed to grow up as the son of a preacher, born in 1888, who served God faithfully as an ordained minister and missionary. He traveled across the southern states, the West Indies, and South Africa, sharing the Gospel with courage and conviction. His teachings shaped me, giving me the foundation to one day appear on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and The Now Network.

That legacy drives my calling to connect scripture with African American history and political thought. My sermons are designed to inspire change and empower people to live out their faith with confidence and understanding.
